Privacy Policy

Stoop ("Stoop," "we," "us") operates a website that lets neighbors photograph, list, and share the items they have for sale in one gallery, and lets nearby shoppers browse those galleries and message the seller. Stoop does not process payments, hold funds, ship items, or take part in any transaction between a buyer and a seller.

This policy applies to the Stoop website and any related pages that link to it. It does not apply to third-party sites where you choose to cross-post your listings, such as Craigslist, Nextdoor, OfferUp, or Facebook Marketplace. Those services have their own privacy policies.

Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, a display name you choose, and — if you sign in with Google — the basic profile information Google returns (name, email, and profile image). We store an authentication identifier so we can keep you signed in.

Seller profile and location. If you list items, you may add a ZIP code, city, state, neighborhood name, and an optional contact email. ZIP and neighborhood are shown publicly on your gallery so shoppers can find sales near them. We do not ask for or store your street address.

Listing content. Photos, titles, descriptions, prices, condition tags, and categories you submit. Published listing content is public by design.

Messages. The content and timestamps of messages you send through Stoop, and read status so we can show unread badges.

Support and contact submissions. The name, email, subject, and message you provide when you use our contact form.

Technical and usage information. IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and error logs. We use your IP address to estimate an approximate ZIP code so the "browse nearby" page can show sales in your area. We do not use precise GPS location.

Payment information. If a paid seller membership is active on your account, payment is processed by a third-party payment processor. We do not receive or store full card numbers.

• To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
• To publish the listings and gallery you choose to make public.
• To deliver messages between buyers and sellers without revealing either email.
• To show nearby sales based on the ZIP code you enter or we estimate.
• To generate suggested titles and descriptions when you ask our AI assistant to describe a photo you uploaded.
• To send service emails such as new-message notifications and account notices.
• To prevent fraud, spam, and abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and comply with law.
• To fix bugs, measure basic usage, and improve the product.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We share information only in these situations:

• Publicly, by your choice. Your display name, gallery, listings, photos, neighborhood, and ZIP code are visible to anyone who visits your gallery link.
• With the other party in a conversation. The person you message sees your display name and what you write — never your account email unless you type it yourself.
• Service providers. Hosting, database and image storage, authentication, email delivery, AI description generation, and payment processing. These vendors may only use the data to provide services to us.
• Legal and safety. When we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or court order, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
• Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Depending on where you live — including California (CCPA/CPRA), Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws — you may have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose about you.
• Access a copy of that information in a portable format.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Delete your personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, or of targeted advertising. We do not engage in any of these activities, so there is nothing to opt out of.
• Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To exercise a right, use our contact form. We will verify your request using the email address associated with your account and respond within 45 days, with one 45-day extension where permitted. You may use an authorized agent where state law allows. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our response; we will answer the appeal within 60 days.

You can also edit your profile, edit or delete listings, and delete your account at any time from your account settings.

We keep account information while your account is active. Listings and photos are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Messages are kept so both participants keep a record of the conversation; when an account is deleted, its messages are disassociated from the deleted profile. Contact form submissions are kept for up to 24 months. We may keep limited records longer where required for legal, tax, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.

Data is stored with our hosting provider using encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encryption at rest, with database access rules that restrict each account to its own private data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable state law.

Stoop is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and we will delete such information promptly if we learn we have it.

We use only cookies and local storage that are necessary for the site to work — primarily keeping you signed in and remembering simple preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. Because we do not track users across sites, Global Privacy Control and "Do Not Track" signals have nothing to apply to. We may update this policy as Stoop changes. If we make material changes, we will post a notice in the app or email you before the change takes effect. Questions or requests go through our contact page.
